Feeling that their rescue is close at hand, the survivors don't know whether to believe Charlie's final message that the people claiming to liberate them are not who they seem to be.

Hurley's flash-forward taught us that there is an Oceanic 6, meaning only 6 of our castaways make the news and get all famous and such. We also learn that Charlie, though dead, is still knocking around in Hurley's brain, and that Jack's awful beard was predetermined.

On-island, we watch everyone cry over Charlie's heroic death, and Jack unabashedly attempt to shoot Locke in the face. We learn that Jacob's cabin can go wherever it pleases now, whatever that means. Also, the castaways separate into two camps: some go with Jack, and some go with Locke.

Naomi's dudes land on the island, but we all know they suck.

LOST.

Am I the only one that saw the Camaro as too much of a giveaway to the first five minutes? Lost traditionally starts the season off with a bang, and while this was good, it lacked the gusto of the last two season premieres. Overall as an episode, though, I'd put this as the best premiere yet.

Plus, Ben was hilarious the whole ep.

It definitley didn't have the explosive beginning that season 3 had but that was one of my favorite moments in the entire series. The way the plane crash was shot and how casually it was brought into the supposedly suburban setting. Anywho, I agree with Jacob that it lacked "gusto"

I agree, I thought the season 3 opener was fantastic, but nothing will top the season 2 DUDE IN THE FUCKING HATCH opener

true, but it is difficult to make a series have soo much kick so consistently. they seem to be doing a wonderful job of creatively portraying the storyline, and its exciting in itself; just seeing how they'll go about telling the story next. i think its experimentation, and i appreciate the fresh shiver of excitement i got watching the initial shots of the more traditionally (hollywood") cinematic but no less enjoyable (continuing..) season opener.

Agree completely. There have been more shocking or heart-beat inducing openers, but it absolutely doesn't take away from the excitement or anticipation. Beyond that, the rest of the episode was so fulfilling that only talking about an opener seems unfortunate. We were introduced to so many new elements so smoothly, and of course the squirming anxiousness is still there.

It's times like these when I want to remind people who say "Lost is going downhill" that the writers have had this in their heads since day 1, so the story is going to remain just as compelling. And it has.
